|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia|
On September 25, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Wang Yi expressed that President Xi Jinping travelled to Russia for the 4th Eastern Economic Forum not long ago, and conducted in-depth communication and exchanges with President Vladimir Putin, which enhanced the strategic mutual trust between the two countries, and was of important significance for both sides to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation and play a greater role in international affairs. Both sides should jointly well plan high-level exchanges between the two countries in the next phase. Against current international situation, China and Russia should strengthen strategic communication and coordination, and firmly safeguard multilateralism, international law and free trade system with various parties, so as to provide more positive energy for the international community.
Sergey Lavrov expressed that President Vladimir Putin was very satisfied with the recent meeting between him and President Xi Jinping in Vladivostok. The Russian side agrees that against the current situation, the two sides should intensify communication and coordination in international affairs and multilateral mechanisms, in a bid to jointly maintain international fairness and justice.
Both sides exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern.
