|Wang Yi Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation Josep Borrell Fontelles of Spain|
On September 25, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation Josep Borrell Fontelles of Spain on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Wang Yi said that the Chinese side appreciates that the new Spanish government continues to adhere to a positive policy toward China, and is willing to intensify cooperation with the Spanish side to jointly push bilateral relations to a higher level. The two sides should take the important high-level exchanges within this year as an opportunity to earnestly sum up the development experience of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 45 years ago, in a bid to jointly well plan a new future for bilateral relations. The Chinese side appreciates Spain's objective, fair and positive view on China's development and appreciates Spain's support for the Belt and Road Initiative. The two sides should focus on the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen the alignment of development strategies and open up new space for cooperation.
Josep Borrell Fontelles expressed that strengthening Spain-China relations is the priority of Spain's foreign policy. Spain not only values China's current international status, but also is more optimistic about China's development prospects. China's achievements so far are admirable. Chinese has become a popular subject in some universities in Spain. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Spain looks forward to the visit of Chinese leaders and will take this opportunity to further explore the cooperation potential between the two countries. Spain attaches great importance to the important role of co-building the Belt and Road Initiative in promoting common development and is willing to actively participate in it.
