Since the inauguration of the new US government, President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump have maintained close communication through meetings, telephone talks, correspondence and other ways, providing strategic guidance for the relations between the two countries. On November 1, the two heads of state held telephone talks again, during which they had an in-depth exchange of views on China-US relations and important issues of common concern, and agreed to hold the meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Argentina. The strategic mutual trust is a fundamental issue concerning the long-term development of China-US relations. The economic development of China and the economic prosperity of the US are opportunities for each other. The Chinese side is committed to, together with the US side, striving to achieve non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation. The Taiwan issue is the most important and most sensitive core issue in China-US relations. It is hoped that the US side will abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US Joint Communiqués, and properly handle the Taiwan-related issue. The essence of China-US economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win results. The two sides should work together to find a proper solution through negotiations on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. The two sides should also enhance cooperation in such areas as the two militaries, counter-terrorism, law enforcement, drug control, people-to-people and cultural engagement as well as at local levels, and step up cooperation in major international and regional issues, so as to bring more and better benefits to the people of the two countries and the people of all countries in the world.
