President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan Meets with Wang Yi

On December 15, 2018 local time, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan met in Kabul with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Wang Yi first conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. Wang Yi said that the Chinese side is ready to work with the Afghan side to well implement the consensus reached by the two Heads of State and push forward bilateral strategic partnership for constant and forward-looking development. Afghanistan is an important partner of jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese side is willing to expand bilateral trade and investment with the Afghan side and help Afghanistan accelerate its reconstruction and development process. Appreciating the Afghan side's efforts in combating the East Turkistan Islamic Movement, the Chinese side is willing to continue to provide support and assistance for Afghanistan's counter-terrorism capacity building.

Wang Yi pointed out that the Chinese side appreciates the series of measures taken by the Afghan government to promote the reconciliation process and supports the international community in playing a constructive role in this regard. Relevant efforts should follow the principle of the "Afghan-led and Afghan-owned" and fully respect Afghanistan's sovereignty and independence and the will of the Afghan people. The second China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Dialogue has reached a series of new consensus. The Chinese side is ready to work with Afghanistan and Pakistan to earnestly implement the outcomes of the dialogue, promote sustained improvement of Afghanistan-Pakistan relations and push forward trilateral cooperation for constant and forward-looking development.

Mohammad Ashraf Ghani asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani thanked the Chinese side for playing the constructive role in promoting the domestic reconciliation in Afghanistan and its support and assistance to Afghanistan's economic and social development. The Afghan side is willing to, together with the Chinese side, deepen practical cooperation, expand trade scale and increase personnel training. The Memorandum of Understanding on counter-terrorism cooperation signed by Afghanistan, China and Pakistan will strongly promote regional counter-terrorism cooperation and the Afghan side will continue to resolutely fight against terrorism in all its forms.
