On April 12, 2019, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), on his re-election as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission (SAC) of the DPRK.

Xi Jinping said that your re-election as SAC Chairman at the First Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly demonstrated the trust in and support for you from the Party and people of the DPRK. I extended warm congratulations and sincere wishes to you. It is delightful to see that under the leadership of Comrade Chairman, the DPRK’s economic and social development has continuously made new progress in recent years, with its socialist cause entering a new stage in history. I believe that under the guidance of Comrade Chairman’s new strategic road map, the people of the DPRK will surely make bigger achievement in various undertakings on national construction and development.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and the DPRK are friendly neighboring countries linked by mountains and rivers. I attach great importance to the China-DPRK traditional friendship and cooperation. I have met with Comrade Chairman four times since the beginning of last year and reached a series of important consensuses, which jointly opened a new chapter for China-DPRK relations. I am willing to work together with Comrade Chairman, taking the opportunity of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, to further push forward the development of China-DPRK relations so as to bring more benefits to the two countries and peoples.
