On April 16, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato' Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob of Malaysia, who was in China for the fourth round of China-Malaysia strategic consultation.
Wang Yi said that China and Malaysia are good friends, good neighbors and good partners. The two countries have developed a tradition of mutual support and mutual trust in long-term exchanges. The Chinese side appreciates Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's advocacy of Asian values, appreciates the support from the Malaysian side for the Belt and Road Initiative, and welcomes Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad is looking forward to attending the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China, reflecting that the Malaysian side attaches importance to and supports the Belt and Road Initiative.
