2019-05-21

On May 21, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov of Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek.

Wang Yi said that China and Kyrgyzstan are friendly neighboring countries and comprehensive strategic partners linked by mountains and rivers. Last month, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov attended the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China, during which President Xi Jinping held fruitful talks with Sooronbay Jeenbekov and the two heads of state reached a series of important consensuses on advancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Wang Yi expressed that the Chinese side is willing to, together with the Kyrgyz side, take the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative as an opportunity, accelerate the integration of development strategies of both countries and well implement key cooperation projects, so as to better benefit the two peoples. The two sides need to enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, actively carry out sub-national cooperation, comprehensively elevate the level of security cooperation between the two countries, and step up efforts against such activities as the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism, transnational organized crime, and drug trafficking. The Chinese side is willing to actively support and cooperate with the Kyrgyz side to well host the Bishkek Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in June. It is hoped that the Summit will carry forward the "Shanghai Spirit" and promote deeper bilateral and multilateral cooperation among SCO members.

Wang Yi pointed out that it has been proved that the sustained, steady and sound development of China-Kyrgyzstan relations is in full compliance with the fundamental interests of the two peoples. China-Kyrgyzstan everlasting friendship is the trend of the times and the aspiration of the two peoples. No difficulties or disturbances can stop this process. Any attempt to divorce and undermine relations between the two countries will not succeed. The Chinese side appreciates the Kyrgyz side's long-standing and firm support for the Chinese side on issues such as the Taiwan issue and Xinjiang-related issue, and will also, as always, firmly support the Kyrgyz side's independent choice of development path and various internal and external policies pursued by the Kyrgyz government to safeguard national independence, sovereignty and security.

Chingiz Aidarbekov fully agreed with Wang Yi's evaluation of Kyrgyzstan-China relations and suggestions on the development of bilateral relations in the next stage. Chingiz Aidarbekov said that the Kyrgyz side warmly congratulates the People's Republic of China on its 70th anniversary, sincerely admires China's tremendous achievements during the 40 years of reform and opening up, and attaches great importance to Kyrgyzstan-China comprehensive strategic partnership. The Kyrgyz side actively supports the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to further align Kyrgyzstan's national development strategies with the Belt and Road Initiative and constantly expand cooperation between the two countries in such fields as economy, trade, investment, energy, transportation, agriculture, and disaster relief. The Kyrgyz side firmly adheres to the one-China policy, firmly supports the Chinese side's policies on China's domestic affairs and issues concerning Taiwan and Xinjiang, and hopes that the two countries will constantly consolidate political mutual trust. The Kyrgyz side thanks the Chinese side for supporting Kyrgyzstan in taking over the rotating presidency of the SCO and is willing to strengthen coordination with the Chinese side to push forward the Summit for a complete success. The Kyrgyz side eagerly looks forward to President Xi Jinping's attendance at the SCO Bishkek Summit and state visit to Kyrgyzstan, and will carefully prepare for President Xi Jinping's visit and ensure a complete success and fruitful results of the visit.

After the meeting, the two foreign ministers jointly signed the Cooperation Program from 2020 to 2021 between Chinese Foreign Ministry and Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry and jointly met with the press.
