|Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze of Georgia Meets with Wang Yi|
On May 24, 2019 local time, Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze of Georgia met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Tbilisi.
Mamuka Bakhtadze asked Wang Yi to convey his warm regards to Premier Li Keqiang. Mamuka Bakhtadze expressed that both Georgia and China are the countries of ancient civilizations and share a long history of exchanges. The Georgian side attaches great importance to the partnership with China and is satisfied with the development of bilateral relations, especially the cooperation between the two countries after the signing of the Georgia-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The Georgian side is one of the first countries to support the Belt and Road Initiative and will host the third Tbilisi Belt and Road Forum in October. More Chinese participants are welcome to attend the forum. The Georgian side is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese in the fields of economy, trade, investment, transportation, infrastructure construction, high and new technology and other fields through the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative to promote the connectivity and people-to-people ties among China, Georgia and the countries in the region. The Georgian side is willing to promote Chinese language in Georgia. More Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest and start business in Georgia, and the Georgian side hopes to attract more Chinese tourists to Georgia.
Wang Yi conveyed the greetings of Premier Li Keqiang to Mamuka Bakhtadze and he noted that Georgia is located at the crossroads of Eurasia and enjoys a unique geographical advantage. In recent years, the Georgian side has complied with the trend of economic globalization and regional integration, taken positive measures to open the market, improved the investment environment, and made new progress in national development and construction. The Chinese side wishes to congratulate Georgia on that. After signing the FTA, China and Georgia have achieved rapid progress on economic and trade cooperation. Georgia is an important hub of the ancient Silk Road and the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative provides a new opportunity for the two countries to deepen cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to become a comprehensive and open trading partner, an equal and mutually beneficial investment partner, and an interconnected transportation partner of the Georgian side in the process of co-construction, so as to push China-Georgia relations to a higher level and make more fruitful achievements.
