|Wang Yi Meets with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Dominic Raab of the United Kingdom (UK)|
On July 31, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Dominic Raab of the United Kingdom (UK) in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wang Yi noted, China-UK relationship now develops into a crucial period. Both as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council as well as major countries with global influence, a steady advancing of the "Golden Era" for bilateral relations serves the common interests of China and UK. The momentum of improvement and development of China-UK relations has not come easily. It is hoped that the UK side will properly handle the relevant sensitive issues. Both sides should enhance political mutual trust and advance practical cooperation so as to promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations. China hopes the UK side will treat Chinese enterprises with fairness, equity and without discrimination.
Dominic Raab said, as the UK and China face common opportunities and challenges at present, it is necessary for the two countries to strengthen strategic cooperation and continuously elevate the bilateral relations to new levels. The UK side is willing to, together with the Chinese side, intensify high-level exchanges, tap into cooperation potential and strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation to jointly tackle global challenges.
Both sides also exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue, and agreed to continue safeguarding and implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear issue. The two sides agreed that all parties should maintain calm and restrained to achieve a soft landing of the deadlock over the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue and communication.
