Wang Qishan Attends and Addresses the Opening Ceremony of the 2019 Imperial Springs International Forum

On December 1, 2019, Vice President Wang Qishan attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the 2019 Imperial Springs International Forum in Guangzhou.

Wang Qishan expressed, peace and development are the themes of the times; multilateralism is an inevitable choice for human beings; expanding cooperation and common development are the appeals of all countries in the world; and multilateral practices centering around the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations (UN) have yielded fruitful outcomes. In recent years, global political and economic landscape has witnessed profound changes and rapid progress in the new round of industrial and technical transformation. The feature of diverse interests and visions has become more prominent. The common challenges facing mankind have become more noticeable. Hence international governing system needs to keep pace with the times. Recent years has witnessed twists and turns in economic globalization, and the rise of unilateralism, protectionism and populism, impacting the order of multilateralism fundamentally. The world looks forward to a rational answer in pursuing integration or separation and choosing cooperation or dispute.

Wang Qishan noted, China practices and champions multilateralism, as well as benefits from and promotes multilateralism. China always abides by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, takes part in a wide range of international organizations and conventions, actively shoulders international responsibilities, and abides by the rules of the World Trade Organization, making huge contributions to facilitating recovery and growth of the world economy. China takes the initiative to open up its market, advocates jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative and shares its development opportunities with the world. China stays committed to peace and development and resolutely supports multilateralism to ensure its own development environment and benefit the world through its own development. China does not want to replace any other country in the process, nor does it have the slightest interest in hegemonism or expansionism. Instead, guided by the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits in global governance, China promotes democracy in international relations.

Wang Qishan stressed, China advocates building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind, which is rooted in the traditional visions of Chinese culture including the common good of humanity, and harmony without uniformity. China is committed to realizing the goal of creating a more prosperous and beautiful world while upholding win-win cooperation, adhering to international rules, pursuing fairness and justice, treating multilateral mechanisms as the basis and eyeing effective actions. China's proposition conforms to the trend of the times and contributes Chinese wisdom and strength to the reform and building of the international governance system in the new era.

Wang Qishan pointed out, sustainable development is the golden key to launching new practices in the cooperation of multilateralism. China regards sustainable development as a national strategy, acts on the new development philosophy, promotes high-quality economic development, balances economic development, social progress and environmental protection, and fosters green modes of development and green ways of living. China is willing to work with the international community to fully implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, actively participate in international cooperation in addressing climate change, open up a new path for sustainable development, and build an open world economy, an inclusive and universally beneficial happy society and a beautiful home planet with harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

Wang Qishan held brief talks with international friends including Vaira Vike-Freiberga, President of World Leadership Alliance, and Nathalie de Gaulle, great-granddaughter of former French President Charles de Gaulle on the sidelines of the forum.

Li Xi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee was present at the opening ceremony.
