|Wang Yi has a Telephone Call with UK Foreign Secretary Raab|
On January 28, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone call with Dominic Raab, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and First Secretary of State of the United Kingdom at the latter's request.
On behalf of the British side, Raab highly appreciated the Chinese government's decisive measures combating the novel coronavirus epidemic, which have achieved positive results. The British side is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China and to do everything possible to provide China with the medical supplies needed.
Wang Yi said, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has built a nationwide prevention and control system, and work in all aspects is underway. The reason why we have taken some extraordinarily decisive measures is to control the epidemic and bring the situation back to normal as soon as possible. At present, the epidemic is generally controllable and curable. With the institutional advantage of gathering all resources to manage major events, we are fully confident and capable of overcoming the epidemic.
Wang Yi said, in the era of globalization, the destiny of all countries is closely linked, and we share weal and woe. From the very beginning, the Chinese side has attached great importance to international cooperation in public health. Based on the principle of openness and transparency, we informed all parties of the epidemic situation in time and shared the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus. The Director General of the World Health Organization visited China recently and highly appreciated the strict and effective measures taken by the Chinese side. From the professional view, the WHO does not recommend hasty withdrawal of foreigners based in China. As a responsible country, China equally treats the Chinese people and foreigners in China, and will continue to effectively protect the health and safety of all. At the same time, China is also willing to maintain communication with all countries, including the British side, to properly resolve matters related to epidemic prevention and control.
The two sides agreed that, in the context of increasing global challenges, China and the United Kingdom, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, should strengthen strategic communication and collaboration, demonstrate new prospects for bilateral relations, and build a true "Golden Era" bilateral ties between China-UK, and jointly safeguard international and regional peace and stability.
