Wang Yi has a telephone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu

On February 1, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at the latter's request.

Cavusoglu expressed condolences and sympathy to those who passed away due to the novel coronavirus epidemic and their families. He fully affirmed China's powerful measures to combat the epidemic, and believed those measures will soon take effect. Turkey has provided China with necessary medical supplies, and is willing to provide more help as needed.

Wang Yi thanked the Turkish side for providing medical supplies to the Chinese side at a crucial moment of prevention and control the epidemic, which reflected the friendship of the Turkish side to the Chinese people. Wang Yi said, China and Turkey are friends and partners, and we should stand firmly together in difficult times. Under the command of President Xi Jinping, China has established a nationwide system and has united from up to down, making every effort to respond to the epidemic. We have strong mobilization capabilities and rich experiences in responding to public health emergencies, so that we can definitely overcome the epidemic as soon as possible.

Wang Yi said, the Director-General of the World Health Organization highly appraised China's decisive measures to fight the epidemic, believed that China's measures had far exceeded the requirements of the International Health Regulations and the recommendations made by WHO. WHO did not recommend restrictions on travel and trade with China. It is believed that Turkey will fully respect WHO's professional recommendations, maintain normal exchanges and trade between China and Turkey, and firmly support China's efforts to prevent and control the epidemic.

Cavusoglu agreed with the above, and believed that the WHO's statement is balanced and objective, and China is fully capable of defeating the epidemic.
