Wang Yi: Facing the Common Threat, China and Russia Will Continue to Firmly Support Each Other


On February 15, 2020 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Munich.

Wang Yi said, during China's ongoing fight against the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, President Vladimir Putin voiced firm support to China repeatedly and the Russian side sent aid supplies to the Chinese side with a chartered flight. Russia's response showed the high level of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, and also the good tradition of the long-term mutual support between the two countries. The Chinese side appreciates the Russian side's support and believes that the solidarity and mutual trust of the two countries will be strengthened in the process of the anti-coronavirus fight.

Wang Yi expressed, a series of high-level exchanges between China and Russia have been scheduled this year. The Chinese side is willing to work closely with the Russian side, in a bid to enhance the friendship and mutual trust between the two heads of state and elevate the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era to new highs. As both China and Russia are currently facing the threat of hegemonism and power politics, the two countries should continue to firmly support each other on issues concerning respective core interests. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the Russian side in the Central Asian region, in a bid to jointly safeguard the security and stability of the neighboring regions of both countries. In the meantime, China will also strengthen coordination with the Russian side on major global hotspot issues, jointly send positive signals to the world and better safeguard world peace and security.

Sergei Lavrov said, the Russian side spares no efforts to support China's fight against the epidemic, highly appreciates the Chinese side's great efforts, and will continue to provide China with all the necessary aid. The Russian side is satisfied with the smooth development of the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination. This year, the two heads of state will exchange visits again, and the Russian side will take advantage of this chance to implement the consensus reached between the two leaders and further deepen bilateral cooperation in all fields. Russia and China have a solid foundation for mutual trust, so that all attempts trying to alienate our relations will come in vain. The Russian side and the Chinese side will continue to resolutely support each other. The Russian side is also willing to strengthen communication with the Chinese side on issues in the Central Asian region and concerning Iran, Libya, Afghanistan and others. Russia and China will also further coordinate with stances on international affairs and jointly play our due roles.
