On February 15, 2020 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at request with Manfred Weberm, Chair of Group of the European People's Party (EPP) in the European Parliament on the sidelines of the 56th Munich Security Conference.
Wang Yi said, as comprehensive strategic partners, China and Europe share important consensus on issues such as upholding multilateralism and free trade. As the world is facing the challenges of unilateralism, the rise of power politics, and the resurgence of cold war mentality, China and the European Union (EU) should strengthen solidarity and cooperation to jointly safeguard world peace and stability. China is deepening reform and expanding opening-up, which will create more opportunities for European enterprises. It is hoped that EPP will support China-EU cooperation and play a constructive role in this regard.
Manfred Weber said, China has significant influence on international politics and economy and EU-China relations are very important. The two side will hold a series of important activities in 2020. EPP will support the EU to strengthen relations with China, expecting further development of bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and other areas. EPP is willing to strengthen exchanges with China, enhance mutual understanding and play a positive role in promoting the development of EU-China relations.
