|State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Speaks with Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok on the Phone|
On 24 June, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok on the phone.
Wang said that the mutual support and help between China and the Netherlands in COVID-19 response is a compelling illustration of how solidarity and cooperation can best defeat the virus. He noted that the frequent and various means of communication between Chinese and Dutch leaders speaks volumes about their high-level relations. China will continue to work with the Netherlands, an important cooperation partner, to advance bilateral exchanges and cooperation while meeting regularized COVID-19 containment requirements. As the two countries work together to beat the virus, bilateral relations will emerge stronger and make fresh progress. The two sides may step up communication on a "fast-track lane" to resume the essential personnel flows in a well-managed way and jointly maintain the stability of industrial and supply chains.
Wang highlighted the 22nd China-EU Summit successfully held recently via video link, where leaders had in-depth exchange of views on key elements of China-EU cooperation, strengthened strategic trust and reached important common understandings. The summit has sent out a positive message of China and the EU rendering each other mutual respect and mutual understanding, and making collective efforts to triumph over COVID-19. It has also injected positive energy to a world full of uncertainties. China welcomes the positive role of the Netherlands, an important force in the EU, in advancing China-EU relations.
Blok commended China's swift and impressive efforts in bringing COVID-19 under control. He noted that solidarity and cooperation is all the more important for the world in the trying times. The Netherlands will continue to work with China to prevail over the virus and accelerate economic recovery. The Dutch side recognizes that further growing EU-China relations is in the common interests of the Netherlands, China and the EU. It stands ready to maintain high-level exchanges and enhance cooperation with China, to jointly uphold free trade and facilitate personnel flows, and contribute greater stability to the world.
