|Wang Yi: The Establishment of a Collective Dialogue Mechanism Between China and Central Asian Countries Is Undoubtedly Logical and Comes About Naturally|
On July 16, 2020, while attending the Inaugural China-Central Asian Countries Foreign Ministers' Meeting via video link, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi noted, linked by mountains and rivers, China and Central Asian countries are friendly neighbors with close ties. The Chinese people and people in Central Asia have enjoyed mutual understanding and amity and are brothers and sisters sharing weal and woe. More than 2,100 years ago, in the Han Dynasty, Zhang Qian went on a diplomatic mission to the Western Regions. China and Central Asian countries then started a historical process of friendly exchanges and jointly composed a splendid chapter of exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations. Twenty-eight years ago, China was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with five Central Asian countries, ushering in a brand new voyage for bilateral relations. Over the past 28 years, we have upheld mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation, and embarked on an extraordinary path of cooperation, setting a role model for a new type of international relations.
Wang Yi expressed, we have successfully resolved the boundary issues left over from history and turned the mutual borders into a symbol of friendship and a bond of cooperation. We have established a high degree of political mutual trust, achieved the full coverage of the strategic partnership between China and five Central Asian countries, and built an all-weather political guarantee for all-round mutually beneficial cooperation. We have worked together for development and prosperity, and joined hands to build the Belt and Road Initiative. Our trade volume has increased nearly 100 times since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The China-Europe freight train and the China-Central Asia oil and gas pipeline have built a multi-dimensional connectivity network in the region. Together, we have cracked down on the "three evil forces" of terrorism, extremism and separatism and various transnational crimes, and firmly built regional security barriers. We have always attached great importance to strengthening people-to-people bonds and held various forms of cultural and people-to-people exchange events.
Wang Yi stressed, China and Central Asian countries enjoy a history of thousands of years of friendly exchanges and decades of close and successful cooperation experience, and therefore the establishment of a collective dialogue platform is undoubtedly logical and comes about naturally.
