Wang Yi Meets with Speaker of the ROK's National Assembly Park Byeong-seug

On November 27, 2020 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Speaker of National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Park Byeong-seug in Seoul.

Park Byeong-seug asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress Li Zhanshu. Park Byeong-seug said that the ROK-China relations are of great importance to the prosperity and stability of both countries and of the whole Northeast Asia. A friend in need is a friend indeed. The ROK and China have supported each other in the fight against COVID-19, setting a good example for the rest of the world. The ROK speaks highly of President Xi Jinping's important proposition of upholding multilateralism and pursuing openness and inclusiveness put forward at the G20 Summit, and appreciates China's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. The National Assembly of the ROK will strongly support strengthening the bilateral relations, and hopes that the ROK and China can establish a strategic dialogue mechanism between legislatures of the two countries, promote people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in the fields of environment and climate change, and take the opportunity of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties to further deepen bilateral relations. The ROK thanks China for its important contributions to advancing the peace process of the Korean Peninsula. The ROK holds the view that the people of the two Koreas should take the lead in settling the Korean Peninsula issue and the issue must be resolved through dialogue and cooperation. The ROK hopes that China could play a bigger role in safeguarding peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula.

Wang Yi conveyed cordial greetings from Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress Li Zhanshu to Park Byeong-seug. Wang Yi said that China has full confidence in the ROK's fight against COVID-19 and has high expectations for enhancing China-ROK strategic cooperation in post-pandemic era. Since China and the ROK established diplomatic ties nearly 30 years ago, the bilateral relations have made substantial progress, achieving win-win cooperation and promoting regional stability and development. Facing changes unseen in a century, China is ready to work with the ROK to pool the wisdom of all sectors of the two countries through the committee for future development of China-ROK relation, charter the long-term development of bilateral ties, advance bilateral cooperation with a global vision, push for greater progress in China-ROK relations for the next 30 years and make greater contributions to the region and the world. South and North Korea are the true masters of the Korean Peninsula. China supports both Koreas in improving relations and advancing reconciliation, and is committed to long-lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. As a close neighbor, China is ready to continue to play its constructive role.
