Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi Meets with Director General of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil

On July 23, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi had a courtesy meeting with the visiting director general of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, who is here for the first China-Brazil arms control and non-proliferation consultation. Both sides exchanged views on issues including bilateral arms control and non-proliferation consultation mechanism, cooperation among Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRICs) and the reform of the UN Security Council.

On the same day, Cheng Jingye, Director General of Department of Arms Control and Disarmament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and the Brazilian side held the China-Brazil arms control and non-proliferation consultation. They exchanged views mainly on the review process of Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, regional nuclear issues, peaceful use of nuclear energy, non-proliferation export control and the work of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. Both sides agreed that this consultation, which was held in a candid and pragmatic manner, can enhance bilateral coordination and cooperation in arms control and non-proliferation and enrich China-Brazil strategic partnership. Both sides agreed to continue keeping contact and dialogue on relevant issues.
