On April 26th, 2017, the Chinese Consul and Head of Post Mme. Wang Jianqun attended the Field Day on Chinese Hybrid Rice at Brgy 7 San Miguel, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. Hon. Board Member Mr. Matthew Joseph M. Manotoc and Hon. Vice Mayor of San Nicolas Mr. Edisteo Valdez as well as provincial and municipal officials and agricultural technologists were among the participants at the function in the Brgy Hall.
In her message, Consul Wang congratulated the local farmers for their first harvest of hybrid rice using the famous Longping hybrid rice seeds. She recalled the donation of Longping hybrid rice seeds by the Chinese government to Ilocos Norte after the typhoon disaster occured more than a year ago. "This timely donation is a testimony to the friendly sentiments by the Chinese government and people towards the Philippine government and people." she said. Consul Wang expressed the wish of expanding cooperation with Ilocos Norte in the agricultural field in the future.
On behalf of the provincial and municipal government as well as local farmers, Board Member Manotoc and Vice Mayor Valdez expressed their gratitude to the Chinese government for the generous donation of Longping hybird rice seeds after the typhoon disaster. Now the farmers were going to harvest their crops, but they could not forget that its was China who helped them over the shortage of rice seeds. "We hope this would lead to more agricultural cooperation and exchange between Ilocos Norte and China in the future." they said.
