On November 26, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the U.S. capital of Washington with Javier Solana, High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union.

Both sides praised the development of China-EU relations, saying that relations between China and the EU have maintained a positive momentum of development. The 10th China-EU Leaders' Meeting will be held on Nov. 28 in Beijing. Both sides hoped this meeting will help further consolidate and broaden the all-round strategic partnership between China and the EU. The Chinese foreign minister also said he hoped that the EU will work together with China to make more efforts to safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits and in the Asian Pacific region. Solana reiterated EU's stance on the one-China policy.

On Iran's nuclear issue, Yang said the Chinese side praises and supports the EU's diplomatic efforts to solve Iran's nuclear issue and to resume negotiations, expressing hope for a real resumption of the talks. The Chinese side is willing to maintain close communication and coordinate with all sides concerned on Iran's nuclear issue and play a constructive role in finally solving the issue through a peaceful manner.
